Daisy Jugadai

Daisy Jugadai

Daisy was born in 1955 at Haasts Bluff, and is the daughter of Narputta Nangala and Timmy Jugadai. Daisy has been painting at Ikuntji Women’s/Art Centre since it began in 1992. One of the strong personalities at the centre she is proud of her work and her family, both of which she treasures. A natural practical joker with a quick cheeky smile, Daisy brings a lot of fun into our lives. Daisy is well known for her unique style with its representation of the native flora of the Haasts Bluff region. What to the untrained eye looks like a colourful painting is in fact a detailed description of a section of the desert showing all the bush tucker growing in the area. Using well-known landmarks – such as mountains and rivers – as guides to the viewer, Daisy makes it possible to orientate oneself and discover where the likely location of a humble meal might be. A Telstra painting section winner in 2000, Daisy is well regarded in the Indigenous arts world. Daisy passed away in 2008.
