Ikuntji Artists at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week!

This is the first time an Indigenous art centre has presented a show at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) and we couldn’t be more excited to share our stories through our stunning collection!

The Ikuntji Artists AAFW show is a community-led initiative showcasing the incredible talents and cultural heritage of our artists. From the designs to the production, this show has been a collaborative effort between the artists at IKUNTJI and the wider community. It is a celebration of our culture and traditions, brought to life through the medium of fashion. This new platform promotes sustainable economic development and empowers our artists and community through art and creativity. This show is not just about fashion; it’s about celebrating our culture.

The collection shown includes designs from Kelly Dixon, Roseranna Larry, Walter Jugadai, Doreen Lane, Anmanari Nolan, Mitjili Napurulla, Mavis Marks, Alison Napurulla Multa, Hayley Dodd, Pam Brown, Virgillia Multa, Maisie Jugadai, Keturah Zimran and Kumuntjai Napanangka Jack.

The show will be overseen by Ana Keshan, a celebrated designer and cultural activist appointed as the new Creative Director of the centre. Ana will work closely with our artists to bring our stories and culture to the forefront of the fashion industry.

Join us in celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Indigenous people of the Western Desert and the incredible talent of the artists at IKUNTJI.

Garments shown were created for Frock On 2021, which was a project that saw Ikuntji Artists collaborate Flying Fox Fabrics to shine a spotlight on hand-printed Indigenous designed fabric! The celebratory event saw makers from around the country create garments from our textiles collection.

All fabrics are available on our website www.ikuntji.com.au and are printed by hand by our partners Publisher Textiles.
