Our Community Sanctuary
Ended — at Ikuntji Artists
It’s all go at the Ikuntji Art Centre at the moment! Not content with running a festival, creating a men’s area and going to the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair, (as well as all the regular painting, jewellery making, tool making and basket weaving) we are also creating a Native Garden!
The space will be a productive garden, and is designed to foster wellbeing in the community. It will be planted with both native plants for medicinal and food purposes, to support a wholistic approach to well being.
The plants will be labelled in Luritja as well as in English and with Latin scientific names. This can then be used by the school for teaching purposes and by the nutritionist and clinic for health education.
This project is sponsored by the Department of the Attorney-General and Justice and ex-offenders will be employed to help with the gardening in a return to work scheme.
If you would like to support this project in any way please contact the art centre on (08) 8956 8783.
