Presented by Ikuntji Artists and Kluge-Ruhe, Tali | Sandhills brings the stories and cultural strength of the Western Desert to the United States.
This exhibition offers a rare opportunity for American audiences to experience firsthand a landmark collection of prints by foundational artists who have shaped the identity of Ikuntji. Since its beginnings, Ikuntji Artists has supported artists to share their stories, knowledge, and lived experiences through painting and printmaking, grounded in deep cultural traditions.

On show in the iconic UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rotunda at the University of Virginia, the exhibition explores the red sandhills as a shared story of travel, memory, and belonging. To see these deep desert stories within such a unique, historic American setting creates a powerful cross-cultural dialogue.
The artworks carry the movement of the sandhills - rising and falling to reflect the patterns of the land. For the artists, these works are a deep reminder of home, holding memories of the journeys people take across the red desert.
