Printed on 100% linen, this design by Noreen Dixon depicts the story of two female ancestors in the Watarru area of South Australia - two sisters fleeing a man who pursues them, hiding in rockholes and caves amid the sandy desert plains. The younger sister is pregnant; the large concentric circles represent the design painted onto pregnant women's bellies for ceremony. The two smaller circles connected by strong lines represent the chest paint of the older sister, who is protecting her. The background patterns of lines and dots represent the vast desert sands.
Noreen was born in Alice Springs and moved to Ikuntji as a child. She is the great-granddaughter of founding Papunya Tula painter Uta Uta Tjangala. She learned to paint in her mother's sacred country at Watarru in South Australia.
